Solution 2 - Optimize Internet Explorer browser settings

Follow these steps to optimize the settings of IE browser -

  • In this first step, you have to close QuickBooks and then open Microsoft IE.
  • Go to Tools. You can also press Alt key on the keyboard to find tools.
  • Now, open Internet Options and look for the Security tab.
  • In the Security tab window, look for Globe symbol and click it.
  • Ensure the security level is set not higher than Medium-high.
  • Look for the Connections tab.
  • If the dial-up node is not used, select Never Dial a Connection. If you use dial-up node, choose the correct internet service provider.
  • Move to LAN Settings after clicking OK.
  • Look for Automatically detect settings.
  • Select it, if it is already not selected.
  • Look for Use a Proxy Server checkbox. Document the full address and port, if in case this checkbox is marked. If you find that the port is different than port 80, do not remove the
  • checkmark placed against Use a Proxy Server option. If in case you find that the port is 80, you can remove the checkmark placed against Use a Proxy Server option for testing purposes.
  • Choose Ok and move to the Advanced tab.
  • Choose Restore advanced settings.
  • Select TLS 1.2 under Settings and hit the OK button.
  • Close IE, and finally, reboot PC.

Start QB after the computer has restarted. Update it and check for QuickBooks error 12029.

Solution 3 - Configure your antivirus and firewall

If you have not properly configured your security software including parental control applications, you may face problems in updating. To configure your firewall, you have to follow these steps –

  • Download QB File Doctor tool.
  • Save and run this tool.
  • This tool will configure Windows Firewall and will open firewall ports automatically.

Solution 4 - Start Windows in Safe mode

Follow these steps to start your PC in safe mode with networking -

  • Firstly, open settings by pressing these 2 keys simultaneously - Windows logo key and I.
  • Look for Update & Security and click on it.
  • Click on Recovery.
  • Go to Advanced startup.
  • Now, choose Restart now.
  • Your computer will restart. Choose an option screen will appear.
  • Click on Troubleshoot and then on Advanced options.
  • Choose Startup Settings and then click on the Restart button.
  • Allow your computer to restart. When it restarts, select 5 from the list of options to use your computer in Safe mode with networking.
  • Now, check whether QuickBooks error 12029 appears on downloading updates.

Solution 5 - Download updates by using the reset update feature

Restart your PC, and then follow the steps given below -

  • Look for QB Desktop icon on your desktop.
  • Right-click the icon.
  • In the list that appears, search for Run as administrator and click on it.
  • Navigate to the Help menu while you are on the No company open screen.
  • From the submenu items, select Update QuickBooks.
  • Look for the Options tab and click on it.
  • Choose the option - Mark all.
  • Now, click on the Save button.
  • After that, navigate to the tab with the name - Update now.
  • Place a checkmark against the Reset update box.
  • Now, click on the Get Updates button.
  • Close your QB Desktop after the update process is complete.
  • Now, reopen your QuickBooks.
  • Click on the Yes button when prompted to install the update.
  • Let the QuickBooks installation to get completed.
  • Finally, reboot your system.

Solution 6 - Other solutions

If the solutions mentioned above do not fix the QuickBooks update error 12029, you can try other solutions such as repairing the Internet Explorer web browser and doing QB clean install in selective startup.
